  1. Hi there! In all honesty, I can't say I remember you (joined mid-2009 on Cupcake's side of the server bunch), but it's always great to hear that old regulars are doing well. We all have fond memories of TF2. A number of regulars are still hanging around on Discord; check the news post for more information if you'd like to stop by.
  2. Yo. Merry Christmas. Long time no see! I've pretty much just doing maintenance work, making sure the server hasn't crashed / burned / fallen to security exploits. Not that there's much community left here, but since it's on auto-pay (thanks to Lemming) I might as well do the upkeep. Part of the maintenance work recently was to update the forum software to run on a non EOL'd version of PHP, so that's been done. Pardon the new design and the few bugs. Anyways, if you haven't seen it, most of the regulars are floating between (at least) two Discord guilds: Monkey Face (or Cocoa, not sure what the canonical name is), and Channel Teufort. Not too late to stop by and catch up with everyone!
  3. Per request, this mix has been added.
  4. The TCRF entry on some Katamari Damacy demos is pretty neat. The unreleased songs bring me back to when I was 11 and playing the game for the first time. Also, now that I know that these protos exist I really hope that unused version of Angel Rain is available in full somewhere.
  5. Neat! I'm surprised they mentioned the server (and you) by name. The video was also posted on reddit the other day as well. How time flies.
  6. You should be able to use the graphics card. The power supply shouldn't be an issue as long as it's not proprietary, but it might be something to consider replacing if it's sufficently old (8+ years). I don't have personal experience on that, however. Sale prices are down to OEM, seems everyone's past the whole crypto thing (and it's moreso other tokens; BTC mining hasn't been profitable for GPUs for a long while). Any computer store should have OEM Windows 10 licenses; not sure how user licensing works these days. I know some licenses are bound to the Microsoft account, but I'm still on 7 myself. Depends on your desired CPU. Intel and AMD are fairly competitive at this point; you'll have to decide on that yourself. Your current latest options are Intel's Coffee Lake (8th generation) and AMD's Ryzen and Threadripper options. I don't have any personal recommendations here since I don't own any of those; I'd be looking at the same benchmarks you would be. Cases do usually have stock fans in my experience, but it varies (higher-end ones may forgo stock fans and have you buy them separately). Stock fans should be fine in most cases (i.e., not overclocking and indifferent about the noise level). Other things: CPU coolers and thermal paste. Stock is generally fine for defaults, but similar to case fans, you might want to go non-default if you want better cooling / lower noise levels. Desktop RAM prices are a bit higher than they used to be, and you do have to go for DDR4 for any builds with newer parts. Logical Increments' recommendations are up to date with modern parts. It looks like Ryzen is solid for mid-range offerings. I used it back in 2012, but being a little wiser now I'd definitely recommend using it as a baseline and not a definitive source (that is, look for sales as well, rather than purchasing the recommendeds). Similar to sales, you can also take a look at secondhand offerings.
  7. I've been tuned into listen.moe. Of course I recognize Tommy heavenly6 from a song I've never heard before.
  8. If you missed the official Jungle Inferno campaign run, you can now buy the pass at a discount and do the campaign contracts at your leisure (whereas you couldn't with previous campaigns). Existing campaign pass holders can also complete their contracts late.

haha yes lemming is still paying the bills I lost track of who's aware but we're all hanging out in Discord now
  10. Speccy (the free version) is my tool of choice, though you can also get it through CPUID Hardware Monitor. https://www.piriform.com/speccy http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Not gay but ass is ass
  12. Scream Fortress is also live. No new content other than untradeable Halloween cosmetics, which are now behind contracts.
  13. Since Valve locked them behind contracts, I wrote a plugin that is available on my server that can grant the new weapons, for anyone that wants to use them in a live-ish game. Plugin source is available here if someone else wants to use it.
  14. Update has been delayed to early tomorrow.
  15. Looks like they brought back "achievement-only" unlock items in the form of contracts for the new Pyro and Heavy weapons. What the fuck, Valve? Didn't have enough reasons to pull players from community servers already? I'm really tempted to work on a "free item server" plugin to let community servers use all the unique weapons without having to lose players to Valve servers. I hope they just forgot to mention that you'll be able to craft them or get them through drops, because otherwise this system is absolute horseshit.
  16. That was part of Meet Your Match; Pyro won. The Jungle Inferno update will include the new Pyro content in one of the later days.
  17. Yeah, I would've just dipped out of mine if it landed tomorrow, huzzah evening classes. Instead, I'm just going to miss out on seeing that Japan / US robot fight live. It's kind of jarring to hear Hale with a different voice after the unofficial VSH voiceovers, but it's not bad. I hope there's some community server stuff in the update so the server owners can enjoy the update too.
  18. Time to dust the forum off for old time's sake. Update page. https://youtube.com/watch?v=YHf7e67T54Y
  19. I didn't expect to be put on a feels trip this early in the morning. Binged 9 episodes. 2 to go.
  20. Rubbing alcohol takes care of thermal paste just fine. You'd preferably want to use newspaper or coffee filters to clean, but if not, just make sure the heatsink is free of any stray fibers before applying new paste.
  21. Haven't been signed in on the forums lately, whoops. Shoot me a Steam message if you need any more details. Latest BIOS update should be fine; it's more hardware-layer support than anything. Windows is generally mangled to hell in keeping backwards compatibility. When replacing the CPU: Open computer. Remove existing CPU. Clean off existing thermal paste. Install new CPU. Apply new thermal paste. Start up the computer. You may want to go into the BIOS settings and make sure you didn't previously set up a limit on processor cores or something similar. Your CPU will still work, though you might have a less than optimal experience. Windows should detect the new hardware and you should be good to go. Did a CPU-only upgrade myself and that was my experience.
  22. Those Gachimuchi collab videos are stupid high quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzi-7VjdkDE I love it.
  23. Google's disabling SMS support in their Hangouts app. Fuck's sake, it was working just fine. Now I have to get a dedicated SMS app because they can't get their shit together.
  24. Keeping your motherboard, any LGA1150-socket CPU with a power consumption at or under 84W should be fine. That narrows it down to a subset of the 4xxx series of Core models, as well as an assortment of non-Core CPUs (such as the Pentium G32xx). K-branded models (e.g., the i5 4670K) have higher clocks compared to their non-K counterparts and can be overclocked, though overclocking likely isn't supported on your current motherboard. Judging by your current clock and model I think you have an i5 4570, which is a pretty high bar when it comes to 1150s. The other i7 the Envy has guaranteed support for is the i7 4770 (K and non-K variants). Anything lower (back in i5 territory) and you'd be spending a good amount for very little gain, in my opinion (provided you're not selling your existing CPU). You could also go for the AM4 or LGA1151-socketed motherboards and a new CPU, though you'd also have to pick up DDR4 RAM. If you do go for a new CPU / board / RAM, you should be set for a while (and have the option of some later upgrades down the line). Do note that with LGA1151, Kaby Lake (Core 7xxx series) does not officially support versions of Windows older than Windows 10. AM4 as a whole also does not officially support Windows versions older than 10.
