Oh, Olivia... Maybe [Nsfw]

Recommended Posts

probably one of the few things PETA actually did correctly in conveying their messages.

unfortunately they're still going about it by objectifying women

This only really applies to a small demographic of people too.

Most clothes are made of plant or synthetic fibers now a days, and sheep aren't killed for wool.

All in all, yes, the treatment of animals in this way is completely abhorrent, but like Arty said, it's not really good to spread their message by objectification.

now now, take it easy...

the nudes are tastefully done anyway and geek guys love seeing their fav muse as pinup.

on peta, they're spot on about wasteful shark fin harvesting but they'll have to rethink the other ones like this...

this boycott is fair enough if we're talking about african elephants coz they're still gonna remain wild and unpredictable no matter how much you train them.

indian elephants, on the other hand, are mostly domesticated beasts of burden and revered by people as gods! -- i feel this species is ok to use for the circus.

with that said, all animals should be treated humanely.

like. it's cool, right? people wearing fur is nasty. and the circus? also fucked up. but what does her being naked have to do with that last one?

i'm all for animal rights but going about it this way is just cheap. and dudes, if you think about it? they think this is how to get your attention. to get some G4 girl naked. it's taking all us down a peg.

The thing I don't like about Peta is how they keep going about it. Hell most of the people who pose naked for Peta, I doubt they even give a shit as long as they're getting their pay.

Sex sells.

it's just a disgusting tactic that isnt justified at all to support their cause and you're definitely right

but think about it, what do these ads do? they're not informative about peta's ideals, they're not trying to educate people and they're not selling a product. They're just going 'hey boys PETA girls are sexy ;)' and you know what?? that makes me uncomfortable (they're also enforcing a skewed idea of western beauty but im not going to go into that)

PETA itself is a horrible organisation and any animal lover should oppose their fucked up ideals, especially when they're using cheap, sexist and demeaning advertising tactics to drag people into supporting their group

I know Olivia Munn was on G4 but for many she is known as a pin-up girl since I honestly think she has had more time inside a Playboy magazine rather than Attack of The Show.

To be quite honest the two ads in the first post I could totally understand and I had a little admiration for PETA for being clever to get such a strong hook ad. But that really ended at the "No Elephants in Circus" ad where she served no point what so ever and it was just a carpet bombing technique for the ad campaign.

Exactly, they're a fucking animal rights group not a store.

My conspiracy theory is that PETA was started by an evil group that wanted to make animal rights people look insane.

BAHH!! methinks you guys are overreacting but i get the point. :P

What kind of reaction were you looking for here, buddy?

...the actual fuck am I reading.

On topic, I preferred it when they had some actress, I don't know who, dressed in a (faux?) fox fur coat, holding up a skinned one and saying "Here's the rest of your fur coat" with some facts about the conditions the foxes were kept in. Still objectifying I know, but it was informative and packed a punch without going so directly for men's balls for attention.

I think we understand that there's a fine line between art and porn.

But this was done for an advertisement...

oh, do relax, please...

THIS...

is what i'm talking about.

as long as it's tastefully done, THAT's how i see it. B)

You want to know the difference, mork?

an artist paints the nude form to show their appreciation for the human body. The human body is a wonderful thing and being nude is its purest state, so nudity has been a theme in art for centuries. You want to know what ISNT cool? manipulating an audience into supporting your twisted money grabbing organisation disguised as an 'animal rights group' by prostituting the image of celebrities to give their campaign a sex appeal because there is NO WAY that PETA can make their group supportable other than by using sex. And that's disgusting.

nude art isnt presented in a sexually provocative manner. This however is, and it makes me feel hugely uncomfortable. It may not be explicit but tasteful it is not.

Adding onto what Arty said, I tend to draw nudes so that I can get proportions down. I don't draw them to get someone's attention and/or hand out free boners. Which is what PETA's doing.

Don't lump in art with unnecessarily-sexual marketing techniques.

Also this isn't tasteful, it's shameless.

If it was a guy would it still be a big deal?

The second ad looks as though Munn was terribly photo shoped in, but other than that I see no problem.

So what if they use her as an icon, millions of companies do the same thing. If you wanna get mad, get mad at the people as a whole, not the single post.

JUST MY OPINION.

No, because men aren't objectified in the media the disgusting way that women are. But that doesn't change that it would still be a horrible advertising strategy for PETA, who are frankly a loathsome organisation.

How long can they go on with this Wearing Fur campaign? Not too long in my view. Fur is nearly non-existant in clothing stores, the only thing we face is the abuse of animals in circuses or attractions. But I've always found PETA to Overreact on many things, even to a fly. Remember this?

So I think PETA should stop most of these campaigns, their not as credible as they...use to be.

As much as I hate PETA, I'll try not to hold it against Olivia. I still love her.
