*Advantages of Sandviches*

I'm curious how he managed to get "Yaaaaaaaaay" from the Soldier. Unless there's some soundclip that I don't know about.

He's usually never that happy about anything. I should find it.

I don't even know what the categories are

Third annual Saxxy Awards page.  I swear I don't mean to keep forgetting this stuff. :v

 The five categories this year:

  • Best Action
  • Best Comedy
  • Best Drama
  • Best Short (Where other entries may be up to 5 minutes in length, entries here may only be 1 minute.)
  • Best Overall
  • Best Replay (Replays are dead forever and aren't in this year's Saxxy Awards.)

I-I think my heart just "dawwwed" there for a moment.

Just for a moment?  More like the entire freakin' time!

It's a mistake to get rid of the replay category.

I feel that last year's replay category took a back seat to all the SFM stuff. Not exactly pleased with the decision, but I can understand why. Maybe an off-season replays contest?

Anyways, submissions are closed now, and voting is open.

For the Short category, I have a feeling Survival of the Fittest will win, it has something that the others don't, I can't put my finger on it. But I much prefer Crackpot or No Hard Feelings. No Hard Feelings feels like something Valve would make. If Lil' Guardian Pyro doesn't get the overall win, I'll be surprised if the overall win isn't from the Short category.

For Action, my money will forever be on Lil' Guardian Pyro, possibly as an overall winner. The others are really good too but I'll be surprised if Wizard's Wrath wins. If Lil' Guardian Pyro gets the overall win, I think Chinatown Getaway might take Action. It was genuinely exciting to watch.

The Comedy entries don't seem as good this year. Quest of the Demoknight is the obvious front runner (and I'd say the only one of Saxxy quality). If Office Fortress had a more even level of quality it might have stood a chance, it certainly had the concept to pull it off.

Drama's always been an interesting category. A Fragile Dream, despite the obvious skill and time that went into it, just felt outdated and tacky for me. I didn't like it, I blame the romance and femscout. I won't be surprised if it wins though. Frozen in Love... I dunno, it felt like whoever did most of the work had to work around what they couldn't do as opposed to worked with what they were good at. I'll be surprised if it wins. I liked Run, it felt like a nice story about PTSD, but I'll be surprised if it wins too. I didn't bother watching Till Death Do Us Part Two because it's not valid to win, since it has ads on it.

Despite my expectation that this year would be even better than last, it seems last year's Saxxy Awards had better videos. Oh well. Between End of the Line and the official short we're still waiting on, we'll get plenty of amazing stuff in the months to come.

Crackpot and Survival of the Fittest are my top two contenders for the Short category, though I feel that the latter used the time more effectively and had better cinematography overall.  No Hard Feelings is also pretty good.  The Mann Co. Symphony is wildly different from the other entries, so I can't compare.

For Action, I'd go with Chinatown Getaway and Lil' Guardian Pyro, too.  Heavy Hitting was a bit slow for me.  And I feel Wizard's Wrath suffers heavily from the poor framerate, more than the just "kinda" fleshed-out development.

Quest of the Demoknight isn't of exceptional visual quality, but hey, it's the Comedy category; the guy that made all those Team Service Announcements has got that down pretty well.  Office Fortress takes a while to pick up; it really starts becoming enjoyable halfway in.  Meet the Workshop has humor for the TF2 crowd, but that may or may not be a dead horse at this point.  Disruption just came off as weak.

Run and Till Death Do Us Part Two are my picks for Drama.  Frozen in Love was okay; definitely seemed like a lazy tactic with the time-freezing.  A Fragile Dream was, erm, something.

Overall, Lil' Guardian Pyro or Survival of the Fittest for this year.  Both deserve to win at their respective categories; who deserves Best Overall is debatable.

That's all I got.

Can't believe Mann. Co Symphony won the Short category. I didn't even think it had a chance.

I don't know how Till Death Do Us Part Two won, it wasn't valid to win (ads on the video)... but whatever.

Neat, I was right about the Action category and overall winner. Lil' Guardian Pyro deserved to win.
