TF2 Update - April 1st, 2014

Recommended Posts

We're getting ready to release a mandatory update for TF2. It should be ready in 10-15 minutes. This is not an April Fools' joke.

-Eric

See below for patch notes.

Areas of interest:

All crates are now rare-ish drops. Far cry from salvaged but still rare.

All of the contents from the new crates are either strangifiers, strange parts, or killstreak kits. Kits can be specialized or professional, albeit rarely.

New chemistry sets dropping, they have an expiration date and cannot be partially completed. They appear to be strangifiers for all strongbox cosmetics.

The backpack UI has changed to page numbers rather than left/right arrows, and when looking through numbered-page lists or dragging an item, the list wraps (so you can right-arrow from page 8/8 to page 1/8, for example)

Thief promos are craftable, and I'm happy to report that the compound bow drops, not just craft-only.

    • Mann Co. Supply Munition Series #82:
    • Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol Strangifier
    • Phlogistinator Strangifier
    • Cleaner's Carbine Strangifier
    • Strange Cosmetic Part: Kills
    • Strange Part: Full Health Kills
    • Strange Part: Headshot Kills
    • Private Eye Strangifier
    • Big Chief Strangifier
    • Mann Co. Supply Munition Series #83[3]:
    • Rocket Launcher Killstreak Kit
    • Scattergun Killstreak Kit
    • Sniper Rifle Killstreak Kit
    • Shotgun Killstreak Kit
    • Ubersaw Killstreak Kit
    • Gloves of Running Urgently Killstreak Kit
    • Spy-cicle Killstreak Kit
    • Axtinguisher Killstreak Kit
  • Series #3 Chemistry Sets supposedly expire at 2014-04-22 06:00:00.

[1] It appears to only be applied to Cosmetic Strangifier Chemistry Sets.  Collector's Chemistry Sets are currently not tagged by series.

[2] Nerfed overall.  Other Targe quickturning methods remain unpatched, so there's that.

[3] Killstreak Kits unboxed from #83 are also capable of being Specialized or Professional Kits.

Hah, they changed the targe turn rate. Someone at Valve watches STAR_'s videos.

Anyway, here's hoping my game doesn't crash on map loads, randomly during games and literally every single time I click the options button. It's really god damn irritating.

A pocket Robo-Heavy was subtly* added to the game as well.

*subtly as in is was literally on the front page of the blog off to the right

Edit: Other items that had their Equip regions changed are Hero's Hachimaki (from Hat to Glasses), Soldier's Stash (again), Gaelic Garb, Sangu Sleeves, Whiskey Bib (all got the Arms group, to prevent Targe clipping most likely), Trash Toter (from Shirt to Belt, can be worn with other shirts now), and Soldered Sensei (to match the Master's Yellow Belt). Why this was all hidden I don't know.

Judging from the steam market listings, the third series of chemistry sets is strangifiers for all of the strongbox cosmetics.

Also looks like all the recipes are 3 strange weapons (any) and 3 refined metal.

Also also updated OP with relevent information.
