Capcom shareholders open company up to takeover possibility

Newsbrief: Today, Capcom announced that at its most recent investor meeting, its shareholders voted to end the company's takeover defense -- which means that Capcom could now be acquired if a company buys up large amounts of its stock.

Many companies have defenses against a stock purchase takeover, and there are various schemes and strategies they can adopt to block a party from gaining control of the company by buying up its stock.

Capcom originally put such countermeasures in place in 2008 following a shareholder vote. This latest development won't stop the company's management from attempting to "react to make necessary measures within the admissible limits of applicable laws and regulations," the company said in its statement.

Marvel vs. Capcom but with Nintendo characters too.
Nintendo owning Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

Nintendo owning the Okami franchise.

I was thinking about this too. Beyond Mega Man, it'd give Nintendo more "mature" IPs that would round out their roster, so people wouldn't be able to say "Oh Nintendo only has kiddy games."

Too bad marvel's IP with capcom ran out, thus unless Nintendo also wants to spend money on that, no new Marvel Vs. Capcom, or even updates to 3.

But other than that, yay go Nintendo.

It would be glorious.  Just like every dumb video game reveals.

Nintendo wouldn't do anything with half of Capcoms IPs. That's probably the worst company that could buy Capcom.

At least EA has its ball in all courts.

This, the issue with Nintendo buying out Capcom's IPs is while yes they would have incredible series under their belt. They have had plenty of other 'mature' IPs which have been shelved for years (Think of Metroid)

Everyone would board the EA hate train but if I want to see games like Mega Man and Resident Evil come out with some newer games.

Even the most violent of Nintendos offerings are still family friendly. If Nintendo bought Capcom we would be saying goodbye to DMC, Dragon's Dogma, Lost Planet, Onimusha, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, possibly Street Fighter and Monster Hunter.

Not to mention we likely wouldn't ever see PC ports ever again.
