Amazon's 20th Year of Service Sale

Recommended Posts

On the week of July 12th, Amazon is celebrating their 20th year of service!

That means that yes, 1995 was twenty years ago!  Holy fuck, you're old.

... oh, and rumor has it that they'll be bursting with sales at the seamsOne mailman is horrified at the idea of the number of packages doubling during that week.  And I don't blame him; USPS has been in the shitter and the postal service is all but gone (since snail mail is pretty much dead for the youngsters).

So far, all I know is that there'll be tons of stuff from all departments.  Many limited, many computer-related.  One-click ordering may be a necessity.

Also, it's seeming likely that the international Amazon stores will also be putting items on sale, for all you non-American lot.

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed when I found out, but I'm still gonna try and keep a look out for good stuff, even if it's gonna be a hassle to keep track of everything.

Not the best of ways to run a sale, no. Most of the sales are going to be lightning deals and be over with in an hour.

But the warehouse is currently bustling and we're expecting a shit ton of volume. Must have some major sales happening because most of the people I hear from don't seem particuarly interested in it. We in the fulfilment centers aren't terribly enthused either.

I get the distinct impression that they didn't think too hard about this sale. Kind of a shame. Amazon could've done something awesome, even if it was more marketing than actual savings.

No, they thought fine about it- Market the "BIG SALE, BIGGER THAN BLACK FRIDAY" etc but only make it to prime members. How many people got schmucked into buying a prime membership right before the sale? These people wouldn't want their membership to go to waste either, so they'll buy more to make it worth their money, sending more money to amazon.

It was always about marketing.

so was there anything good on sale?

There's a PNY 240GB SSD for $60 on BestBuy; Amazon also price-matched: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-cs1100-240gb-serial-ata-iii-solid-state-drive-black/3935046.p

Amazon Warehouse is also providing 15% off of all purchases if I remember correctly, meaning dozens of people got good deals on stuff there.

I'm holding out for a good 1150 socket 'board myself.

Plus a lot of it was overstocked items that were taking up a lot of room in the warehouses. So in addition, it was also to clean out some of the junk (A lot of us were calling it a 'Garage sale', rightfully so) that was cluttering up the place.

But yeah, there were some aspects on our end that were poorly planned.

I managed to get a slow cooker/pressure cooker.  One thing I saw was a lightning deal on sigma lenses that went straight from upcoming to 100% claimed.  It was insane.  But yeah, the rest of it was crap.
