Weapon pick-ups: Yay or neigh?

If you haven't been following TF2 updates as of late, the Gun Mettle Update of last week brought an interesting change to the game: you can now pick up dropped weapons and use them until your inevitable in-game death.

 

As a "serious" server, I'm wondering what the regulars think.  Should the server stick to just plain old nocrits and nospread (and otherwise keep up with TF2 updates), or should it be changed to a slightly more "competitive" format (i.e., no weapon pick-ups / disallowing Mediguns, as UGC has announced?)

Never realized there was an option to do that, though it makes sense because the world would be full of weapons if that didn't happen.

 

Personally, I'm pretty fond of the weapon switch mechanic. Haven't tried it excessively on Medic yet, but for Soldier, Engineer, and especially Persian Persuader Demoknight, it brings a pretty nice twist into the game. Gotta learn to adapt on the fly when there aren't ammo packs around and you gotta get some new loot for a life.

Since everyone can have any weapon (minus certain reskins), it's not a big deal. If you can stop long enough to change without someone picking you off, you could probably go back to spawn and change anyway.

Like a slightly less random randomizer? I like it.

Actually that would be pretty neat for randomizer. You can somewhat change up your weapons for interesting combos or something more viable if you got a really crummy random selection at the start. Or even having random starting loadouts off and the players have to pick other class weapons up as they find them. Main thing would be to prevent suicide and self-damage kills from dropping weapons to prevent people from abusing it in spawn and setup.

I know there are still a couple of weird interactions, like intel and swapping into a jumper weapon, as well as the payload exploit, so if anything I'd like to hold off until those types of things are fixed. Outside of those kinds of issues though, I don't see why we wouldn't keep weapon swapping enabled

Killing a Sniper then taking his Australium Sniper and killing him with it again is like the best feeling in the game right now

 

We should keep it.
