Source Filmmaker Was Leaked.

Recommended Posts

Edit #God knows what.

I FINALLY FOUND A FUCKING WORKING TORRENT.

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3819765/Team_Fortress_2_beta_NoSteam

Download that. Already no-steamed.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use:
1. Find the hl2.exe and create a shortcut. Right click-properties and add the following text to target: "-game tf -applaunch 440 -window -noborder -novid -tools" without the quotes.
2. Start game.

To edit:
1. Ctrl + L to load a map
2. Press the record button to record some actions.
3. Do Step 2 as many times as you'd like.
4. Click the Active Camera/ Work Camera button to take control of the camera.
5. Place camera.
6. Trim timeline down to properly record the shots.
7. Crank the motion blur and/or depth of field.
8. File > Export > Movie > change the renders settings to your liking.
9. Find something to do for a while because rendering takes forever.
Motion blur but no DoF is an instant render. DoF but no motion blur takes a few seconds. DoF and motion blur will take hours.

You're welcome.

Found a demo of what it can do:

http-~~-//www.youtube.c...h?v=5YoGZviRcxY

I was just about to post that. But yeah, that's what it does. It can do much more than that, though. Per-Object Blur, post processing effects, and more importantly, the ability to overlap up to 300 demos at a time. That video in particular is only one person. Just him as a different class over and over and over again. This could be incredibly useful. Have you ever wanted to make a machinima, but you can't get three people who want to cooperate with you? Ever wanted to make a video but couldn't get the other players to behave just right? Ever wanted it to look slick as hell like Valve does? Well guess what, Chubby McGee, now you can.

Edit: Ninja'd Geshin.

The demo doesn't seem to show much in my opinion. We can already do stuff like that.

The unique part about that video is that one person did all the player controls (one at a time, of course) and then played it back as if they all acted at the same time.  You could do something similar by combining seperate footage with a difference filter, but you'd have to be careful with characters running "into" each other.

Or you could get a few coordinated people to do it in real-time, but that could be tough to find. :o

Fasten your belts kids, we're now entering the "holy fucking shit" zone.

Exactly. This has some rather large implications.

You can:

  • Insert faceposing.
  • Change cameras or have multiple camera angles.
  • Fade clips out, merge them together, overlap them, color swap, etc.
  • Publish directly to Steam (not very useful)
  • Make models face current working camera (dramatic chipmunk-esque)
  • Load any animation set with any model (!!!)

Even though these tools were to be released after all the Meet the Team videos, I'm not touching them.

What difference does it make? You're using a non-Steam version of an old game. It's not like Valve will catch you doing it.

Well, Valve might give you a movie director megaphone if you didn't use them before they're released officially

No, they might gonna give out hats. A big thank you for not being a pirator: A pirate hat.

You clearly own the game. You're torrenting an older version of the game, one that you technically paid for by supporting a newer version. It's not pirating.

The idlers made a similar argument, and look where that got them.

The people who didn't participate in the leak will be able to download the gold edition of Source Filmmaker, while the people who torrented/pirated the software will have the pirated software taken away and will be unable to download the official release.

Well, something like that is improbable, but oh well.

Lets compare this correctly please.

This is not a "leak", that implies a lot of things that didn't happen, its more like they accidentally released it, then recalled it. It would be like banning people for sharing the meet the spy video when that was accidentally released.

Also, its extremely absurd to compare it to idlers. Those of us that idled downloaded a 3rd party program to cheat the system.

The ONLY crime here might be modifying it to not need steam, but considering it cant work WITH steam at the moment, it had to be done.

Exactly. Besides, it's rare that people will have experience with the software enough to make videos comparable to Valve quality. You'd need Filmmaker experience, animating experience, modeling experience...but still, it's better than how most people make movies.

Now it just needs to let you rewind without starting over from the beginning and we'll be golden. It does look like this new movie maker is gonna be fun to play with. I'm content to wait until its released anyway, just so its not buggy.

I'm pretty sure it can do that. Have you tried?

I haven't seen any indication that they have added that feature. It would be very difficult for TF2 to render a demo in reverse, it's always been impossible since demos were invented in Quake 1. It just plays the game events, so it has to process the changes to the state of the world in sequence. If they figured out a way, that would be a major breakthrough.

That's bloody incredible. Maybe (hopefully) this new technology will lead to a Renaissance of TF2 machinima.
