Pokemon Generation 5

Recommended Posts

Somebody must've known somebody was going to bring this up.

Anyway, this is just for you guys to talk about the new Pokemon game that is coming out at the end of this year, and give any updates that come out about it.

The first two new Pokemon were announced yesterday: http://serebii.net/generation5/

I personally like Zorua better than it's evolved form, Zoroark. Zoroark just looks like another Lucario with Dragonball Z like hair, and different colors.

I personally am looking forward to this, I do competitive wi-fi play often so i'm warmly welcoming 5th gen unless they add alot of broken pokémon (Scizor, Bliss), Hopefully should add new strats and what not to it.

So far it looks sweet. They finally have another fox kind of pokemon. Gonna be interesting to see what they do with this gen.

good god. when are they going to let this series die?

When it starts sucking....which.....*looks into crystal Pokeball* Oh! Looks like never.

Games come out a few days after my birthday, which continues the proud tradition of my birthday being awesome. Having such releases as Smash Bros. Brawl....and Resident Evil 5.....and now Final Fantasy XIII (even though we already know it's terrible), followed shortly by Pokemon HG/SS. I'll be getting Silver no doubt, as it's the color I had originally.

When it starts sucking

It started sucking when they released Gen III.

Tell that to the sales.

Uh huh, yeah.

Asshattery aside, I do agree that was the weakest part of the series though. Which probably wouldn't have been the case if it hadn't directly followed Gold/Silver.

I'm a huge pokemon fan.

But I will agree that generation III was the absolute weakest link, sales wise or not.

As for a 5th gen, I don't know how they can get even more legendary Pokemon if there already is a god, time, and space pokemon.

New Pokemon doesn't look too bad though...could be worse.

I wish they wouldn't focus so much on new pokemon and more on the gameplay. Generation 2 was by far the best, because after you beat the elite four, you could still do shit, there were still bosses to be fought. This has been remedied a little in generation four, with the legendaries that are only available after beating the game, but I would really like to see more stuff like generation 2. Actual gameplay past the elite four. Not just running around to catch pokemanz. Such is why I'm so psyched for the remakes of the second gen.

Yeah, I like Zoroark, but it DOES seem like it will become the new Lucario, namely since he'll be the star of his own movie. I would prefer that he not reach Lucario status. I will always like Lucario more, and I'm sure people will think the same way, but you never really know.

the sales.

Sales != Quality. I don't think I can emphasise that enough.

Sure, a quality game will imply (usually, not always the case with unknown or indie games sometimes) high sales, but high sales does not imply quality.

Take two videos on Youtube for example.

A video could have 17 million views, and be terrible with an average of a 1-star rating.

Then you'll see an excellent video, average 5-star rating with only 3,000 views.

Is the video with 17 million views always better? Not necessarily.

Indeed Phaze, and that's why I will always say that Generation III was the worst of them all.

I mean, not just the gameplay, but they just introduced so many useless pokemon....I mean, even Bibarel was useful in D/P/Pt!

Look up Spinda. Worst pokemon ever.

There are a few things I'm praying for though.

1) There has to be something to fix up Stealth Rock. Ruined competitive matches, you can barely use anything weak to rock.

2) Better evolutions for stats. Some pokemon are awesome, but their stats just suck while their movepool is wicked.

3) Along with what Hat said, there really needs to be more right after the E4. And not just catching, but actual more challenges to do. Thats why Gold/Silver was my favorite generation, there was so much more to do.

1) I do argee with Stealth Rocks, I used Articuno as a Support poké for a while (Heal Bell, Roost, Ice Beam, Toxic) but It sucked because every time i switched it into do what it's made for, It got dominated by Stealth Rocks, Same with using Moltres with Overheat, To get it's top power back it needs to switch in and out, Thus getting dominated by Stealth Rocks again :/.

(I still prefer Toxic Spikes over Stealth Rocks)

2) Awesome movepool but horrid stats, First thing which comes to mind is Dunsparce, Awesome for Paraflinch (Body Slam + Heatbutt + Serene Grace pretty much will cause chaos for all non-ghost types, and even then it can use Bite to cover that weakness)but alas it has pretty bad stat distribution

3) I completely argee.

Yes Neh, there already is porn of the new pokemon.

There was porn of it within the first 12 hours after it was released.

1) Yeah, it's pretty much that way with everything. Articuno and Moltres/Ho-Oh are definitely prime candidates for "getting screwed over in the ass". Could be a great use, but a dual weakness to rock just ruins everything. 50% damage on a switch in? Come on. And its not easy getting rid of that shit either, you gotta have both 1. a spinner, which is in fact pretty damn hard to find, making you stuck with certain Pokemon that could be easily replaced with better ones, and 2. you gotta kill the one who has stealth rock. You might be unlucky to have to kill 2 stealth rockers. Toxic spikes actually make sense though, along with spike. I just forget if toxic spikes affects flying types...can't remember. I know that Steel will prevent it for sure.

2) Absolutely, Dunsparse is definitely the most unloved one of all. Another one I like is Sudowoodo. You know how awesome he got with Rock Head AND Wood Hammer? It was completely wicked at what he could do. Alas, his stacks suck too, and he's forever cursed with a useless pre-evolution. You should at least make a final evolution first before a pre-evo....

3)I can probably say one sad thing about it though; I doubt it will ever happen again. The key point for them is to make money, and the best way to do that is just to give one region, and improve on that only, as opposed to 2 regions like Gold/Silver. I mean, Platinum wasn't that bad either, considering there was the Battle Frontier to do, and you could fight the Gym Leaders again (who were improved), but I'd actually like to travel and do stuff as opposed to just do basic stuff....if I really want to battle more, I could just keep doing the E4 unlimited times.

Wall Of Text

1) Yeah Toxic spikes affects Flying types, Unless they have the Iron Ball which is hardly used on Wifi from my own experance (Although i did use to use my own Spiritomb set with Iron Ball and trick just to mess up Sweepers or just the generic Flying type, Worked wonderful when i tricked an Iron Ball onto a Choice Band swellow haha). And also with Toxic Spikes, you send out a non-flying/levitating poison type on it, They get absorbed and such is no longer in the battle, so it works out logically :P

2) Sudowoodo is pretty cool to use in Trick Room, Base 100 attack and 30 speed works pretty cool, but sucks outside Trick Room, Much like Ramparados who has monster attack yet low speed, But it's a darn shame that he can only take out 3 pokémon before his own STAB head smash kills him, Not complaining about Mold Breaker though, Nice to get through some abilitys.

3) I have shamefully used the Wi-Fi battle frontier to test out pokés before i used them on actual Wi-Fi play

Sales != Quality. I don't think I can emphasise that enough.

Except that, sales haven't dropped since Third Gen, and have instead grown.

Seriously, the whole Sales =/= Quality response is such bull shit. If you don't have anything to add to the conversation that you have to resort to an out to "win", then just quit talking. That kind of shit works in basically every conversation, and it's the sign or someone who doesn't have anything important to say.

I don't really care about whether or not the series continues due to sales, I care more about whether they listen to the community about the issues from previous games, and use that to improve the next one. THAT is how a good series is made, IMO, not just "oshit, we made a good game, let's just continue the series to milk moneh!" Cough MW2 cough >.>
