Just saw the live-action Jungle Book. As someone who thought the original Disney 2D-animated classic as a mere 'meh' (heresy, I know), I really really liked this version.
The first half-hour felt like a nature documentary, which makes for a very interesting setup. The backgrounds are oozing with nature, the cinematography is top-notch, and the animals are incredibly well-animated. Mowgli was also way more interesting as a main character than the stupid kid he was in the original. It also gave Raksha a bigger role, which makes sense because she IS Mowgli's mother.
The casting is also spot on. Bill Murray's Baloo comes off with all his lazy con-artistry, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera for that dignified touch, and Shere Khan being voiced by Eldris Elba is scary as flipping hell. Seriously, everytime he opened his mouth it's like he was going to freaking eat somebody.
Few complaints.
Overall though, it was fantastic.
